The 1997 field program was conducted at the request of the Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh. It was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (contract number USAID RE III 388-0070). The contract was implemented by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) International, Ltd. of Arlington, Virginia and the Environmental Health Programme of the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in Dhaka.
